About Us
Our Heritage
James Development Co. Ltd. was founded in 1959 as the successor to the respected AJ Cooper Builders Ltd, a name still recognised today for its enduring quality. As a family-owned company with over seven decades of experience, we continue to uphold a tradition of excellence in design and construction, guided by professionalism, integrity, and a deep respect for craftsmanship. The company continues to be led by the Cooper family, now with growing input from the fourth generation.
What We Do
We manage every stage of development in-house, from land acquisition and feasibility studies to planning, construction, and eventual sale or lease. Our portfolio includes thousands of residential properties, alongside substantial commercial, healthcare, and retail developments. While we are primarily active in Greater London and East Anglia, our projects have reached as far afield as Scotland and Switzerland. Although the majority of our development portfolio has been predicated on our role as developer, we have operated on a solely contracting basis for major national developer clients on 500+ unit sites and substantial commercial buildings.
How We Build
Our homes are designed for elegant, modern living, thoughtfully planned and generously specified. Typical features include:
Fitted-wardrobes in every bedroom
En-suite bathrooms in principal bedrooms
High-quality fitted carpets throughout
Thermostatically controlled central heating
Eco-friendly double glazing
Renewable energy heating systems
Generous provision of electrical sockets
What Sets Us Apart
We are a privately owned firm, and every decision we make reflects our long-term commitment to quality. We don’t cut corners, we innovate, whether by adopting advanced BIM software, investing in environmental best practices, or developing our own financial modelling tools to ensure accuracy. We continue to build with the same care, dedication, and attention to detail that has defined our work since the business was established in 1959 by Albert J. Cooper and Eugene J.B. Cooper.
